WEBSITE
Piczo
Piczo is a free website builder.   Basically it enables you to design your own site, add photos, text and all manner of enhancements.   The only stipulation being that you must have a Home Page and a Profiles Page.   Having said that, we do seem to have managed to delete the Profiles Page for the time being and the roof doen't appear to have fallen in on us.   Perhaps the only downside are the advertisements which periodically infiltrate the screen.   However, it seems a minor distraction when you consider the benefits.   Firstly, the site costs Notts & Derby nothing other than the time of the person updating the information.   Secondly, it gives us the opportunity to present our Association to a world wide audience.

When did it start?
The site was originally started in 2006 by our then Publicity Officer Gary Sutton, a local fancier based in the Mansfield area.   Gary used to report on all the monthly meetings, events and shows but has decided although still actively involved in the hobby, to move on and do other things.   Prior to the website's renovation in May 2008 we had received over 2,800 hits.

Who is running it now?
Little had been done on the website since the end of 2007 and it seemed a great waste of a facility so Lyn Bancroft, our President's wife has taken it on to ensure that members, friends and interested visitors can keep up with the latest happenings in an around the Nottinghamshire area.

A message from the "Website Apprentice".
This whole experience seems completely surreal, especially when you consider that it was only in May of 2007 that I actually got a computer system at home!   When our Chairman asked me if I would be prepared to "have a go" I did initially think he was joking, but apparently not.   After the initial panic had worn off, I decided to consult with my dear friend Derek Dobson.   What Derek doesn't know about these things is not worth knowing and I thought at least he could have a look at the background of the site for me and tell me exactly what I was letting myself in for.   "Well, it's not going to be that easy", said Derek the "Website Wizard".   Every website is different you see and finding the commands on this one was like a magical mystery tour.   I decided right from the outset that it was a case of in for a penny in for a pound and went for a complete overhaul and re-design of the whole site.   The idea was to go for something that looked reasonably professional, was pleasing on the eye and hopefully low maintenance.   Thanks to Derek I can now add pages, photos and text without referring to my copious notes!   The enhancements and animations are all down to the "Website Wizard", I haven't got the technology available to me.   I had only to mention that the Links Page looked boring and that I could do with a Biggles in an aeroplane pulling a banner, when hey presto an hour later Biggles the Budgie comes trundling across the Links page!   Thank you Derek you really are an absolute star!

Plans for the future
An advertisement page has been set up where sometime in the future it should be possible to paste advertisements.   Details will be posted on the Latest News Page as and when they become available.   When we get to the bottom of the Profiles Page for example, it may well be possible to display information and details about our Club Officials.

Contributions welcome
Lyn will accept any interesting material to post on the site.   Articles in particular will be more than welcome, as will any decent photographs of budgerigars.
